Bollywood veteran Govinda marked his return to politics by joining the ruling Shiv Sena in Mumbai on Thursday, accompanied by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Govinda, known for his iconic roles in Hindi cinema, previously tasted success in politics by winning elections on a Congress ticket from the Virar constituency, defeating BJP stalwart Ram Naik.

The ‘Raja Babu’ actor first entered politics in 2004 and made headlines as a “giant killer” after triumphing over senior BJP leader Ram Naik in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat while representing the Congress party. Welcomed warmly by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Govinda expressed his gratitude, highlighting his popularity across various sections of society.

After a hiatus of 14 years from active political engagement, Govinda expressed his eagerness to contribute to the art and culture sector if given the opportunity. He praised the developmental strides made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership at the national level and commended Maharashtra’s progress under CM Shinde’s administration.

Reflecting on Mumbai’s transformation, Govinda credited CM Shinde for enhancing the city’s aesthetics and infrastructure, making it more vibrant and developed. His decision to join Shiv Sena, a party with which his parents shared a strong bond, was hailed as a “blessing of God” by Govinda.

Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora, welcoming Govinda into Shiv Sena, reminisced about their long-standing association spanning over 25 years. Deora praised Govinda’s sincerity and clean-heartedness, emphasizing his desire to represent the creative and cultural essence of Mumbai, the country’s cultural capital.

Govinda’s return to politics has sparked interest and anticipation, given his previous electoral success and his commitment to contributing to the growth of art, culture, and Maharashtra’s overall development under Shiv Sena’s leadership.
